Carolyn Friedlander is a quilt and fabric designer working from her hometown of Lake Wales, Florida, an environment she enjoys for its warm weather, few distractions, and potent community of quilters and crafters. In her work, she draws inspiration from features of the Florida landscape—its long leaf pines, palmettos, water, scrub land, sand—as well as her background in architecture. Stevii has been involved with quilt making since 1975 and has been a juror and judge for competitions throughout the U.S. She has been the judging coordinator for Road to California since 2002. She currently serves as President of the International Quilting Association (IQA). Her quilts have been published in numerous books and magazines as well as having been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Stevii loves all types and styles of quilt making and has worked tirelessly to be sure that quilts are displayed in a variety of venues. She currently lives in Leesburg, Virginia with her husband, Randy.
Janine Vangool is the publisher, editor and designer of UPPERCASE, best known for the eponymous quarterly print magazine for the creative and curious. UPPERCASE publishes content inspired by design, typography, illustration and craft. Her magazine and books celebrate the process of making, the commitment to craft and the art of living creatively. Janine has worked as a freelance graphic designer and has also taught typography and publication design at the college level. She has a particular fondness for typewriters, a passion that has inspired a book about their graphic history. She lives in Calgary, Canada with her novelist husband and curious 4-year-old son.
