Fox in the Henhouse by Toronto MQG
By Lynda Hutchison
In August, a call went out to Toronto Modern Quilt Guild members for design ideas for QuiltCon’s 2018 charity quilt. It was decided that a modern take on the log cabin block would be our choice.
Lynda Hutchison designed the quilt using EQ7 software, Elaine Theriault of Northcott Fabric generously donated the ColorWorks Premium Solids, and we were ready to go.
At our meeting on September 24, 12 TMQG members (Anna Figueira, Catherine Clarke, Catherine Illingworth, Christine McAuley, Corrine Berinstein, Judy Kowalski, Karen Brown, Peter Byrne, Rebecca Burnett, Sandra Sarner, Stephanie Wessely Rose and Sue Motahedin) each took away one of the 12 block designs and the fabric to make their block.
Members were requested to “quilt as you go” on their home machines using a design of their choice. One month later, the beautiful results of their creativity were displayed at our October meeting.
Lynda took the blocks home, assembled the quilt with the help of several YouTube videos, added the participants names to the binding and finished our quilt with time to spare to send it off to Pasadena.
Fox in the Henhouse was truly a collaborative effort. The individual quilting designs blended well with each other and made our quilt a beautiful one-of-a-kind work of art!
We’re all looking forward to donating the quilt to a worthy charity, and seeing what we’ll come up with for QuiltCon 2019.
