SAFETY GUIDELINES: UPDATED January 2022

With Omicron cases surging in the U.S., we are taking a moment to be as transparent as possible about plans for COVID-19 safety at QuiltCon. We want to give you all the information available, so you can make your own individual risk assessment.

QuiltCon will not be canceled by the MQG. The only scenario in which QuiltCon would be canceled is if a government entity prohibits the event, but we do not anticipate that happening. The show will go on, but it may look a little different than normal!

QUILTCON SAFETY PROTOCOLS:

All participants at QuiltCon 2022 will be required to wear masks.

  • Masks must be worn at all times except while actively eating/drinking, or in outdoor settings.
  • Masks must cover both the nose and mouth.
  • Mask enforcement teams will be onsite to ensure mask compliance at the show doors and throughout the exhibit hall.

All face coverings (whether disposable or reusable) must:

  • Be made with at least 2 layers of breathable material.
  • Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin.
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the sides of the face.
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops to allow the mask to remain in place hands-free.
  • Based on guidance from health authorities, neck gaiters, open-chin, triangle bandanas, and face coverings containing valves, mesh material, or holes of any kind are not permitted.

All workshop participants at QuiltCon 2022 will be required to be fully vaccinated (per the CDC guidelines) or show proof of a negative PCR test.

  • Workshop attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination or negative PCR test results, taken within 72 hours of workshop date/time, in order to attend their workshop. If you are registered for a workshop, you can upload a photo of your vaccination card on this form. Vaccine cards and test results may also be shown at the door to your workshop. Read about what is considered fully vaccinated from the CDC.
  • Masks will be required in the workshop areas at all times.

Wider Aisles & More Space for Seating:

We also have wider aisles throughout the show. QuiltCon aisles are usually a 10-foot standard. Our 2022 aisles will range from 12-feet to 30-feet. Seating in the lecture halls and workshop rooms will be adjusted to allow for more space between attendees.

Sanitation Stations:

We are working with the convention center to have sanitization stations positioned throughout the event. The space is much larger than we have had before and will provide ample space for spreading out.

Please do not attend any in-person QuiltCon events if you are feeling unwell or showing any symptoms of illness.

If you have been recently diagnosed with COVID-19, have recently had direct contact with an individual diagnosed with or suspected to have COVID-19, or are displaying symptoms commonly associated with COVID-19, please do not attend QuiltCon.

The MQG is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment at QuiltCon for all to enjoy. All participants, including, but not limited to, attendees, faculty, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, staff, and others are expected to abide by the MQG Community Guidelines and all other policies in effect for the event. We reserve the right to modify these policies and procedures at any time given the rapidly changing nature of the current global pandemic.

We will continue to monitor and update safety precautions for QuiltCon 2022 regularly and coordinate with trusted national resources, state and local public health agencies, as well as our partner hotels and venues for the event. Our first priority in all meeting and event decisions is the safety and welfare of our attendees, exhibitors, volunteers, and staff. We thank you for your commitment to helping us keep us all safe.

This policy is based on guidance and recommendations issued by the federal Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and other public health authorities.

IDENTIFYING YOUR PREFERENCES

The MQG will provide physically distant seating in the lecture hall and workshop rooms as well as wider quilt show aisles to allow individuals who wish to physically distance while at QuiltCon to do so comfortably. Additionally, to help attendees communicate their level of comfort in interacting with one another, we will provide optional color-coded stickers for onsite attendees:

Green:
Handshakes & High Fives are ok

Yellow: Elbow Touches Please

Red: Please Greet from 6 feet

ABOUT THE VENUE

The Phoenix Convention Center is GBAC STAR accredited, which indicates that they have implemented rigorous protocols in response to bio-risk situations, specifically including the use of personal protective equipment, emergency preparedness, sterilization, and sanitization to provide clean environments to guests in the era of COVID-19.

In addition to cleaning measures, the Phoenix Convention Center has modified doors to stand open on their own to allow you to navigate through the facility without a touch. An automated parking access system has also been implemented to eliminate onsite person-to-person interactions and prevent unnecessary contact points.

Throughout the facility, you will see frequent reminders to wash hands and take protective measures. Hand sanitizer stations are present throughout the center. Signage will remind you to keep elevator capacity to just 3 individuals to promote safe physical distancing.

All seating areas will be configured to provide for adequate physical distancing.

All QuiltCon workshop spaces will have shared tools and machines wiped down in between classes to provide the cleanest atmosphere possible and will also adhere to the social distancing requirements and guidelines of the city of Phoenix, state of Arizona, and Centers for Disease Control.
